Demonstrate knowledge of traffic law for the purpose of safe driving

Level: 2 Credits: 3 Marking Service

Description:

Learn the foundations of safe, legal driving in Aotearoa

This course introduces the key responsibilities every driver must understand before getting behind the wheel. Whether you’re preparing for your learner licence, supporting a driving-related class, or building essential road safety knowledge.

What you'll learn

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to describe:

  • Your obligations under New Zealand road laws
  • Rules around licences, vehicles, and driver behaviour
  • Your responsibility for keeping yourself, your passengers, and others safe
  • How New Zealand road rules apply to different driving situations
  • Requirements for sharing the road safely with other users
  • Your duties in relation to speed limits, intersections, and road conditions
  • How to make safe, lawful decisions while driving

Through practical road scenarios and questions, you will practice making the kinds of decisions drivers face in real situations, rather than simply learning the rules in isolation.

What you need for assessment

This assessment is closed book and covers two main areas: the legal responsibilities of a driver and the legal requirements for sharing the road with other road users.

About 50% of the assessment is auto marked and the remainder is assessor marked.

This course is developed by Instant Education Solutions and aligned with NZQA Unit Standard 3462: Demonstrate knowledge of traffic law for purposes of safe driving – Level 2, Credits 3.
