Level: 2 Credits: 3 Marking Service

Description:

In this course, learners will learn about the roles and responsibilities of the New Zealand Police Ngā Pirihimana o Aotearoa (the Police) in the community.

Once learners have completed this course, they should have an understanding of the following:

  • the values that the Police have
  • the roles that the Police have in society
  • the specific services that the Police provide and the effect of these services
  • different types of police and their purpose
  • a person’s rights and obligations when dealing with the Police
  • procedures that the Police must follow
  • ways to make a complaint against the Police.

If possible, teachers could ask a police officer to speak to the class to explain their role in society, or the class could visit the local police station to learn more about the Police.
